Bladder

The kidneys clean out blood and regulate the chemical composition of our body.  They have the ability to alter function according to the body’s needs, and without them the body would poison itself with its own waste.  The waste that the kidneys eliminate is called urine.  The urine is sent from the kidneys to the urinary bladder via two ducts called ureters, and then the urine is ejected from the body during urination trough the urethra.  The urine cleans the urinary tract and uses chemicals to kill germs and bacteria.

Urinary Tract Infection

When bacteria overpower the body’s defenses they cause an infection that can travel from the urethra, up to the bladder, ureter and kidneys.  Painful urination, pus in the urine, burning during urination, poor bladder control and low-grade fever are all symptoms associated with urinary tract infection.

Urinary tract infections are more common among women of childbearing age, pregnant women, children, people in the hospital; with catheters, and elderly persons.   Trauma, obstruction to the tissue surrounding the urethra and kidney stones are also common causes of infection of the urinary tract.

Most urinary tract infections do not develop serious problems, but a minority of the sufferers develop kidney damage or blood poisoning.

The Medical Approach

In the medical field, urinary tract infections are controlled by drug therapy, however the medical fields beliefs on the infection is controversial.  Prescriptions are used on a trial and error bases, as the infection may not go away or may leave and return again.  The longer the prescriptions are utilized, the less effective they become.  Unfortunately the cause of these infections are not addressed, only the symptoms.

Interstitial Cystitis

An inflammation of the urinary tract, rather than an infection, is deemed by the medical community to be incurable.  The chiropractic profession does not believe that you have to learn to live with anything.  When the medical community does not have a cure, perhaps it is time to seek therapy from other sources.

Incontinence

Incontinence is a common ailment among the elderly that is caused by factors such as poor diet, muscle relaxers, sympathetic blockers, diuretics and general muscle weakness.  This condition had shown success in relief with chiropractic treatment.  Anyone who suffers from incontinence should seek alternative treatments to the medical standards.

Spinal Nerve Stress

You may suffer from spinal nerve stress for years before a symptom appears, but while symptoms are absent the damage to the body is being done over time.  This is why a chiropractic check-up and maintenance is very important.   A vertebral subluxation, diagnosed in its early stage is easier to correct than a subluxation that has progressed to the point of actual symptoms.  Just as we should see our dentist regularly, we should see our chiropractor regularly.  Like dental care, if a cavity is located when it is small it may be filled, but if one waits until pain is noticed that cavity may have already damaged the tooth beyond repair, the same holds true for vertebral subluxation.

The Chiropractic Approach

Your Chiropractors goal is to relieve your body of vertebral subluxations so that your body may function properly. Uncorrected vertebral subluxations can cause a weakening of the spinal muscles, stretch and deform the spinal column, cartilage, discs and vertebrae.  This causes a lack of energy, early aging and fatigue.   But the most prevalent result of spinal nerve stress is the irritation of the nervous system and brain stem.   This irritation is an interference that interrupts the information and energy flow to the various parts of the body and lowers our natural resistance to sickness and disease.  Chiropractors are trained to locate and correct vertebral subluxation through examination and spinal adjustment.  The adjustments relieve the nerve stress and assist in restoration of body function.  Proper functioning of the nervous system through chiropractic treatment is one of the best defenses against conditions and diseases that one would normally not be susceptible to.

Numerous studies done on the association between the spine and urinary tract infections reveal that there is a direct relationship between a healthy spine and the internal organs of the body, hence an unhealthy spine in the area of the body that feeds information and energy to the urinary tract will leave one susceptible to disease and sickness they would not be subjected to if they were healthy.

Although chiropractic does not treat urinary tract infections, it does treat the person with the disorder or disease, strengthening their body and relieving spinal nerves stress, which enables their body to function more properly and heal.  This is the reason for the great number of people who have found relief through chiropractic care.
