Sinus Trouble
Your
sinuses are eight spaces in the bones of your forehead, cheeks
and temples. People who suffer from constant stuffy nose, mucous,
recurrent colds, and post nasal drip that is chronic could be suffering
from the most common nasal condition for people between the ages
of 18 and 45, sinusitis. Symptoms
Health sinuses are lined
with mucous to keep the air taken into the lungs at the proper
moisture levels, temperature
levels, and filtered from dust, dirt and other foreign matter. Without
this filtering you lungs, kidneys and organs can fill with toxins.
When the sinus linings
are inflamed and filled with mucous it is called sinusitis. Sinusitis
usually occurs when a cold ends, and can cause pain, headache,
swelling around the
eyes and ears, ache in the cheekbones, jaw and teeth pain, increased
nasal secretions, chills, fever, dizziness, loss of appetite, sensitivity
to light, bad breath, and even depression.
These symptoms are caused
by sinusitis and sinusitis is caused by many irritants to the mucous
membranes. Some common
irritants are dust, dirt, pollen, fumes, bacteria and hot dry zones. Some
less common causes are bony growths, polyps, deviated septum, facial
injuries, tumors and disease of the upper teeth.
The Medical Approach
Antibiotics, decongestants
and antihistamines are the most common forms of medical treatment
for sinusitis. Most
of the time these forms of treatment can make the symptoms abate
for a short period of time, but they may return worse than they were
before. In addition, they may cause insomnia, nervousness,
and high blood pressure and accelerate heart rate. When these
usual medial procedures fail, many patients are referred to surgery
rather than informed about alternative natural forms of health care.
The Chiropractic Approach
Chiropractic is
not a treatment for sinus trouble, however; it does give relief
to sufferers. If your
body is functioning properly it has a strong resistance to germs,
dust and other causes of sinusitis. Chronic sinusitis has been
linked to immune system defects. With chiropractic treatment
the bodys nervous system works more efficiently making the
body function closer to optimum level. Because studies
have shown that chiropractic treatment may improve the immune
function
of the body, it is a good idea to see your chiropractor to obtain
the benefits that would strengthen your body and prevent susceptibility
to sinus trouble.
